Pediatric First Aid for
Caregivers and Teachers (PedFACTS) The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is pleased to bring you Pediatric First Aid for Caregivers and Teachers (PedFACTs), a new national pediatric first aid course. Caregivers and teachers need to know what to do when a child is injured or becomes suddenly and severely ill. Most injuries that require first aid are not life-threatening. Usually, first aid involves simple, common sense procedures. However, first aid can sometimes mean the difference between life and death. All caregivers and teachers should have pediatric first aid training.

Completing Institute Instructor Candidate Course
Those with little or no teaching experience must participate in a formal
Institute Instructor Development Course (IDC). The IDC covers topics such as
teaching methodologies, complying with ECSI policies and procedures, course
objectives, conducting skill practice sessions, and administering examinations.
Institute Instructors are responsible for:
Facilitating Learning—Institute Instructors are responsible for ensuring that proper content and skills are covered in all courses, including having all course materials and equipment available.
Being Familiar with Material—In order to be effective teachers, Institute Instructors must be familiar with the course objectives, course materials, and ECSI policies and procedures.
Evaluating Participants—In order to receive an ECSI course completion card, participants must complete the final examination and receive a passing grade of 80% and demonstrate competency in the skills taught.
Maintaining Course Rosters—Participant rosters are submitted to the instructor’s Educational Center.
Keep Up-to-Date—Stay abreast of ECSI course content, ECSI course materials, and ECSI policies and procedures. The ECSI electronic newsletter will assist with this responsibility.
Instructor Renewal
Instructor cards are valid for two years from initial sign-up date. To retain active status, each instructor must teach a minimum of one course per year and course rosters must be kept on file at the Institute Educational Center.
